A watch is one of the few things you own that can genuinely last a lifetime β and beyond. But longevity isn't luck. These small habits make the difference between a watch that fades and one you hand down.
1. Wipe it down
Skin oils, dust, and sweat build up on the case and strap. A soft microfibre cloth once a week keeps everything looking sharp and prevents grime from working into the crevices.
2. Respect the water rating
3 ATM means splash-proof, not swim-proof. Know your watch's rating before it goes near a pool, and never operate the crown or pushers underwater.
3. Store it properly
Keep it in its box or on a watch roll, away from direct sunlight and magnets (speakers, laptops, phone cases). Magnetism is the silent killer of accuracy in mechanical watches.
4. Service on schedule
An automatic movement should be serviced every 4β5 years. Think of it like an oil change β it's far cheaper than a repair after neglect.
